Job Summry
The Nutrition Officer will monitor and Implement the performance of SAMS nutrition projects and interventions. S/he will manage and train field-level nutrition staff, perform on-going monitoring and support supervision, program planning, liaising with local Directorates and Non-Governmental Organization partners, and staff capacity building. To coordinate the implementation of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding practices (IYCF) and other nutrition program activities in various project locations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that the nutrition projects are implemented according to national CMAM guidelines, and program objectives; Prepare and manage a work plan to ensure that all projects are well implemented. Maintain adequate supply of Nutrition supplies and medicines. Coordinate with the relevant partners to ensure that nutrition supplies are procured/delivered in a timely manner.Identifying and compiling needs, support preparation of distribution plans and preparation of post distribution reports.Follow up with nutrition field coordinators to ensure that the CMAM database is accurately updated. Ensure that weekly and monthly updates are promptly submitted to the cluster, by working closely with SAMS M&E and IMU departments.Identify field staff capacity gaps and source for appropriate facilitators to train and mentors staff for performance.Follow up regularly on supervisory visits with the field coordinators to ensure quality of nutrition projects and support identification and documentation of quality success stories.Participate in rapid assessments to provide an overview of the situation on the ground in order to estimate the immediate needs of the population within the area of operations and select the most appropriate intervention strategy;Contribute in hiring the community nutrition workers and Mother support groups for community mobilization and promotion of IYCF key messages among the child caregivers.Prepare internal and external reports within agreed deadlines using SAMS and donor formats, as required; including the Nutrition cluster updates and monthly reports and meetings.When called upon, participate in developing concept notes and proposals in coordination with the other relevant departments and units in the organization.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, or Diploma in relevant field.at least 2 years hands on experience in emergency nutrition programming.Professional technical experience, including 2 years implementing nutrition programs in Southern Syria. Prior training in CMAM , IYCF; proficiency with SMART is an added advantage. Demonstrated experience in capacity building, project design and budget management. Strong understanding of South Syria and Rural Damascus operational context. Experience in working with and coordinating with UNICEF and other stakeholders. Strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills. Excellent analytical and written skills, and good computer skills. Fluency in English and Arabic. Additional qualities: ability to multi-task, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, adaptability to transition.
